Before coming to Prague, my initial reaction to being a tourist in a foreign city was pretty negative. I didn’t think there would be a lot of locals who spoke English. With that being said, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Prague has so many good English speakers. And when out and about we have been treated very kindly. No one has looked down at us because we don’t speak a lot of Czech. We had a really good experience with buying Ellen’s suitcase. The shop employee realized we didn’t understand Czech fluently and immediately switched over to English. She was very curious to know where we were from and what we have been doing in the city. She even recommended a statue that we should go see. However, she couldn’t remember the name of it so she drew it out for us. It was a really good interaction between a tourist and a local and I hope we find more of these encounters throughout our time in Prague.
The attached link is a sketch I made reflecting on the experience: Sketch
